Elkhorn, a Montana ghost town in HD, is near Boulder, Montana. Join me as I explore Elkhorn ghost town in the southwestern part of our state of Montana. Silver was initially discovered in the Elkhorn Mountains and over $14 million in silver was carried from the mines in the area. In 1890, the Sherman Silver Purchase Act passed, creating a high demand for Elkhorn's silver. During this peak period, Elkhorn boasted 2,500 inhabitants, a school, hotel, church, stores, saloons, and brothels. Unlike most mining towns, Elkhorn was populated mostly by married European immigrants. In 1893 the Fraternity Hall was constructed for social gatherings, and still remains as one of the most well-preserved buildings in Elkhorn. In the years following, the silver boom and Elkhorn's prosperity began to ...
MONTANA SKY 2007 PLOT: Half-sisters Willa, Tess, and Lily Mercy are left their wealthy father's multimillion-dollar estate, including his Montana ranch, after his death. The only stipulation is that the women will have to live with each other for a year. Having never previously met, the three sisters, who have very different personalities, agree to the strange situation (mostly because each of their 1/3rd share is worth 8 million dollars), despite having reservations about their forced family 'reunion'. The biggest problem the women face, however, is the discovery of a saboteur in their midst. It seems that when their father died, he left some bitter enemies behind, enemies who would love to see his daughters fail. Now, in order to get what is rightfully theirs, the three siblin...
There's Gold in Them Thar Hills! Montana is nicknamed the "Treasure State" and our state motto, Oro y Plata means "gold and silver" in Spanish. Follow the gold mining process as we pre-sort through tons of rock and wash the remaining gravel to extract the heaviest material, GOLD! This sequence was shot in August 2012 using a GoPro Hero2 camera and a Canon Vixia HFX-100. Edited with Adobe Premier Pro 5.0.
Nearly seven years ago, an elk hunter in Montana found a fossil that has led to the discovery of a new species of prehistoric sea creature that lived about 70 million years ago in the inland sea that flowed east of the Rocky Mountains. Detailed in an article published Thursday, the fossil revealed a new species of elasmosaur with a shorter neck: only 7½ feet compared to the typical elasmosaur neck that could stretch 18 feet. This prehistoric sea creature would have lived around the same time and in the same area as other elasmosaurs, which puts a dent in the theory that elasmosaurs did not evolve over millions of years to have longer necks. Elasmosaurs were carnivorous creatures with small heads and paddle-like limbs that could grow as long as 30 feet. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/p...

Took an off day and spent it in town and around camp. Was a good break and glad we had the time to spare. The town of West Yellowstone, Montana is just outside west entrance to Yellowstone National Park on highway 20. The KOA is 6 miles west of town and the rodeo is 1 mile west of the KOA. All very convenient. We had a one room, dry "Kamper Kabin" which worked just fine for us. The Yellowstone KOA is a very nice camp and one I would readily stay at again... BTW, at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center I asked specifically about YETI coolers since I’ve seen them around quit a bit. They replied they passed the bear tests “with flying colors”.
